FORMER Laikipia chief finance officer Richard Kimang’a has accused Governor Joshua Irungu of using the county assembly to suspend him.
Kimang’a on Monday and Tuesday told the EACC that Irungu orchestrated his removal from office after he refused to pay Sh3.3 million to a contractor who worked on the controversial Kinamba office since the tendering process was irregular.
“A story was fabricated about illegal employment and irregular allocation of land because the governor felt that I was being too strict on the contractor,” Kimang’a said.
However, Irungu told the officer to carry his own cross without dragging his name in the matter. He defended the Sh3.3 million contract to renovate his office in Kinamba township. “It’s not my company that renovated the office so there was not conflict of interest as claimed. This is a government office and has nothing to do with me,” the governor said.
